Happy last Monday of the month, which means your Ask Irisel issue is here. You send me your questions throughout the month, and I answer them the way I would if you were one of my private clients.
And if something in here stirs up a question of your own, don't keep it to yourself. Send it over to me at iriselaesteria.com/askirisel, it takes all of 5 minutes, and it might be the one I answer in an upcoming issue.
Ask Irisel | Vol. 05: How to Evolve Your Brand Without Losing Your Audience
I've got another 3 questions I'm covering this month, and they all come back to:
You've outgrown your brand. Your business and your positioning have grown so much bigger than when you started, and you're ready for your next level: more money, more clients, more impact.
You already know you're ready to evolve your brand, the real question: is how to do it as seamlessly as possible. AKA: you want to evolve your brand (better visuals, better mindset, better content/website etc) without dropping everything you're working on and lowering your sales in the meantime.
Well my dear you're in luck, if you're ready to turn 10k months into 50k+ we're about to dive in deep.
So let's get into it.
Q1. From J: "I've outgrown my positioning and I know I need to evolve my brand, but I've spent years building this audience. How do I move into the new brand without confusing or losing the followers and clients I already have?"
Okay, first thing, and I really want you to hear this one: don't stress this so much.
If you've already built an audience, and there are already people in it who are an ideal fit for you, then evolving your positioning isn't the dramatic thing you're picturing it to be.
Most of the time when someone tells me they need a full rebrand, what they actually need is an evolution. They're still speaking to the same target demographic, they're just now speaking to a slightly different ICA.
What that means for you is that the general demographic you're speaking to stays the same. You're just now speaking to someone a little further along than they were before. Very seldom does anyone do a complete 180 in their positioning, to the point that they actually have to start over.
So this is honestly easier than you're making it. You can just start speaking from your new positioning, and speak more clearly to exactly who you're for. And the funny thing is, your audience won't really "notice" that you've evolved your positioning. What they'll notice is, "wow, her content and her visuals have gotten so much better and more precise."
Q2. From S: "Iris! I have been absolutely loving your Apex Brand Identity series because it relates exactly to where I am, it's like you're speaking directly to me! I've already made great money and I have clients I absolutely adore. I'm just ready for MORE. More money, more clients, more impact. And I KNOW that comes with elevating my brand to that next level. BUT my question is how do I do it? Where do I start? So where exactly do I begin, and how do I manage this evolution while still taking care of my clients and keeping my feet on the ground?!"
Okay S, first, the one thing I really don't want you to do: don't drop everything to rebrand. I watch this happen constantly. A client gets one good idea and immediately thinks she has to drop everything she's doing to chase it. You don't need to blow up everything you're working on new to chase your new ideas (in this case, your new brand.)
What you do instead is take it in phases. It's the same order I walk you through in PRISM Part 2: align your most aligned thread first, then your most out-of-alignment thread, then work back through the rest of PRISM. Here's how that looks when you're evolving.
Start with the Apex Brand Checklist and find which of your five Brand Identity threads already feels closest to your next-level brand. Maybe your embodiment already feels almost there. Maybe your visual palette is close and just needs a few tweaks. Start there. Getting your strongest thread fully aligned first gives you a powerful baseline. It shows you the signature energy of your next-level brand, so as you work through the others you have something to raise them up to match.
Then move to the thread that's the most out of alignment, the one that feels the most painful or frustrating right now. When a thread is out of alignment, it creates friction, and that friction is what's slowing your whole evolution down. Remove the biggest source of friction first and everything after it aligns so much easier.
From there, you just work back through PRISM, picking up anything you haven't touched yet.
And the main thing, the part that keeps this from swallowing your life: take it in steps.
You might have to lighten your load a little, take on a few less clients, launch a couple fewer offers, or ease off your content schedule slightly. But you never completely let go of what you've already built. You lighten it just enough to give yourself room to add a couple of these evolution projects to your plate, one thread at a time, one month at a time.
And if you'd rather not map this out alone, if you want private eyes on every thread of your brand as you evolve it, that's exactly what we do inside my 1:1 Brand Codex Intensive.
Q3. From S: "Iris!! My business has grown so much bigger than when I started that my brand doesn't fit who I've become anymore. It's amazing and I'm so grateful but I'm scared I'm just going to stay stuck in a circle of rebranding, building, then doing it all over again. How do I make sure my future rebrand actually reflects the woman I've grown into and isn't just a fresh coat of paint on the same old thing?"
This right here is exactly why the P, your Presence, is so important in my PRISM Brand Identity framework.
A truly powerful brand gives you room to evolve and grow. Most people build their brand and positioning around who they are right now, what they're known for today, their current offers and their current teachings. (ie: they build their brand around who they've been, not who they are becoming)
It feels safe and comfortable, but it limits your income/success ceiling. The moment you grow past that version of yourself, your brand starts feeling suffocating. Instead of building around who you've been, you have to build a brand that's able to evolve as you evolve.
The more you anchor your brand in your Presence and your Resonance, your own consciousness and your Brand Archetype, the more it stands on values that stay true even as you change. Those two threads are the part of you that never gets outgrown.
So your brand should always represent who you see yourself becoming, while staying connected to who you are right now. What it should never be built around is who you used to be.
Because here's what most people do without realizing: they position themselves around who they have been. It feels safe, it's the identity and the teachings and the courses they're already confident in.
But when you brand yourself in alignment with who you actually are, at your highest level, you give yourself room to grow, because you're building around the woman you're becoming instead of the one you're leaving behind.
